Expertise
His legal expertise is rooted in Financial Services Regulation. This includes advising on FCA rules, FSMA, MiFID, and all other EU regulations. This also requires a detailed and strategic understanding of EU and UK data regulations. Further, he has advised FinTech businesses concerning UK intellectual property matters.
Over the last 20 years Iain Sheridan has acted for, against or alongside the following businesses: ABN AMRO, Accenture, Bank of America, Barclays, Bloomberg, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, Fidelity Investments, Fox-Pitt, Goldman Sachs, HP Autonomy, HSBC, IBM, Intel, JC Flowers & Co, Lenovo, Macquarie, JP Morgan Chase, RBS, Santander Group, Société Générale, TP ICAP, Tradeweb and Wall Street Systems. Between 2007-9 he was also Head of Legal (Europe and Asia) for Fox-Pitt Kelton, a financial services sector dedicated investment bank.
Preventative Dispute Management
He has provided advice, drafting, negotiation and renegotiation of complex commercial contracts, such as the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) Master Agreements. Other types of high-risk business contracts he has worked on includes trading and settlement systems agreements. In his experience, it is only on breach or termination that weaknesses are exposed in many negotiated and signed international contracts. The consequences can be unnecessary financial loss, damage to reputation and time wasted on managing litigation.
He looks to prevent disputes or curb litigation by negotiating or renegotiating agreements, especially companies competing in the Financial Services and Technology sectors.

Iain has also contributed thought leadership advice to the FSB on operational resilience.
Whether based in the Financial Services or Technology sectors, he is committed to act independently and for long-term interests.
